IT’S that time of year again ladies! Here are The Live Scene’s top three party dresses for your New Year’s Eve night out!

nye21. Embellished Bodycon Dress, £89, Miss Selfridge – It’s the final day of Autumn/Winter 2012, so why not go out with a bang in this elegant embellished dress from Miss Selfridge? Embellishment is popular this season with Balmain’s collarless jackets, Jenny Packham’s shoulder encrusted dresses and Mark Fast’s intricately jewelled cover-ups turning heads at Fashion Week. Wear this dress with these nude heels from Bank to elongate those legs of yours, and finish your outfit off with some Barry M lipstick in Chestnut Red.

2. Light Purple V Neck Peplum Dress, £25, River Island – Designers loved the two P’s (that’s Peplums and Purples) this Autumn/Winter, with Prada, Gucci and Christopher Kane waving the purple flag, whilst Nicole Farhi, Mary Katrantzou and Burberry Prorsum took the peplum trend one step further with their exaggerated hip-line pieces. This River Island dress seems to emulate both of these trends – so for only £25 what more could you ask for?

3. Foiled Lace Skater Dress by Dress Up Topshop, £50, Topshop – Skater silhouettes were huge this season with Victoria Beckham, Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen including this cut in their A/W collections. Complete this look with these black Topshop platforms and some sexy smokey eyes, courtesy of Models Own.

I shall be wearing either a cobalt blue cut-out dress from Desire, or a Topshop smart cream blouse with Republic’s Miso PU leggings! Oh and not forgetting my killer black Primark heels!

What outfit will you be wearing this New Year’s Eve?

So you’ve drank the last of the mulled wine, opened up all your presents, and you’re stuffed with Christmas dinner. But wait, it’s that time ladies… it’s the Boxing Day sale!

You may think sale items are the High Street’s way of saying ‘this isn’t on trend anymore’, and whilst these items may have been popular this Autumn/Winter, they are also going to be HUGE next season, and here’s why!

ri1

1. Brown Leopard Print Shorts £10, Black Lashes of London Black Sequin Dress £25 & Cream Pearl Collar Jacket £30.

Designers are going animal print crazy next Spring/Summer with Erdem’s tribute to snake skin and Issa taking us through jungle paradise. So why not get ahead of the fashion pack and bag yourself these luscious leopard print shorts – hey they’re only a tenner!

If you’re looking for that perfect NYE party dress, than look no further than this £25 scuba sequin dress! Embellishment is bigger and better than ever next season – think Viktor & Rolf, Balmain and Giles. Wear your new sequin number with MAC lipstick in ‘Cockney’ and these perfect peep-toe shoe boots from River Island, and you’ll enter 2013 in style!

It may be minimalistic, but cream and white colours were everywhere during S/S Fashion Week! From Jil Sander’s exaggerated hipline dresses to Missoni’s sleeveless shift dresses – they showed us that white can never be boring! If white is too much for you, then buy this cream pearl collar jacket – at £30 it may be expensive, but you can wear it with anything! Well, apart from white…

1.Moto Sparkle Yoko Crop Jacket £22, Illusion Pencil Dress £20 & Trace Lace Up Trainers £12.

Topshop has surprisingly some cheap sale items this Boxing Day, and what better way to nail two trends in one, than putting this denim crop jacket into your virtual shopping basket? Cropped jackets was a favourite trend with Chanel and Balenciaga, and denim was all the rage at See by Chloe and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Just wear it with a cute pink lace dress for a cool daytime look.

What’s black and white? Moschino’s sixties coats? Marc Jacob’s referee stripes? Or what about Jonathan Saunders leather chevron dresses? All of these top designers showed us that next season you can mix up the monochrome trend, and this £20 Topshop dress seems to do just that! The black side panels create a slim silhouette, whilst the dress itself is a Bodycon number, so your curves will stick out in just the right places. Just pair it with a vibrant lippy and you’ve got yourself the perfect New Year’s Eve outfit!

Whoever thought that trainers weren’t fashionable, bow down now. Ashish and Moschino Cheap and Chic went against the fash pack and stormed the runways with their models in Reebok Classics and Nike Air Max trainers! So what are you waiting for? Get ahead of the average fashionista and click ‘Buy’ on these Topshop lace up trainers now!

1. Flower Bomber Jacket £10, Leopard Print Mesh Crop Vest £2 & Neon Pink Jumper £12.

Bomber jackets are going to be huge next Spring/Summer with the likes of Stella McCartney and Jonathan Saunders including this look into their S/S collections. Make like Loewe and wear a floral bomber with a cute bralet and a simple skirt, or if you’re the grungy type, pair it with these River Island leather jeggings, printed H&M tee and black leather buckle boots from Office.

Bra tops may have been huge last season, but they are still heating up next Spring/Summer! Take inspiration from Jason Wu and Versace! This £2 – yes £2 – leopard print mesh vest hits all the right trend buttons! Just remember to keep the outfit classy ladies!

Everyone loves a bit of neon right? Just look at Simone Rocha, Matthew Williamson and Louis Vuitton. Make like these designers and wave your neon flag with this vibrant pink jumper! Team it with American Apparel’s famous disco pants in Black and you’ll be oozing the classic casual look!

Are you heading out this Boxing Day to grab yourself a bargain? Or are you going online and shop in front of the festive fire?

(Note: All items were picked on Christmas Eve, so there might be reductions or even sold out!)

With the Olympics only two months away, there’s no better time than now to celebrate all things British, whilst trying to achieve that must-have bikini bod. Fancy something a bit different to wear to the gym? Then look no further as with Next’s incredible summer collection at your fingertips, you can not only exude patriotism, but you can also work out in style!

The Sports Luxe trend has brought together two things which we could only dream of combining – style and sport – with top designers such as Phillip Lim, Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang and even British style icon; Victoria Beckham including sporty, but fashionable pieces in their Spring/Summer 2012 collections!

The mood board above is the inspiration for my Next wishlist, with a classic and iconic British theme taking precedence – such as the red double decker bus, Her Majesty’s crown and the Queen’s Guard. Combining the sports luxe trend with the Olympics makes it relevant to people who are in the gym and are trying to achieve that pre-holiday bod. It shows that even though we’re not all amazing athletes that we can feel a part of the Olympics, and that it can bring Britain together through our love for sport and fashion.

With my holiday to Malta only a few months away (okay it’s more like five months, but who’s counting?), I am on a mission to achieve a top-notch bikini bod, and with these items from Next’s summer collection, I can not only feel amazing after my post-gym burn, but I can show off my ‘inner fashionista’ too! Who said that gym gear has to be plain and boring?

From Left to Right: 1. Adidas Stella McCartney Performance Tank – £38, Adidas Stella McCartney Navy Leggings – £42, Purple Lace Racer Back Vest – £28, Geri Floral Swimsuit – £35, Official Team GB Olympic Scarf – £10, Stripe Number T-Shirt – £20, Adidas Stella McCartney Red Running Jacket – £68 & Purple Mesh Sweater – £28.

These Adidas/Stella McCartney designs are a perfect example of two house-hold name brands which are proving that sport and fashion CAN mix. The best thing about this wishlist is that with vibrant colour-blocking and clashing prints massive this season, you can mix-and-match everything – giving you more variety in your gym gear! Pastels are huge at the moment with Alexander McQueen, Emilio De La Morena and PPQ all sending their models in these delicious ice cream shades down the runway.  This lilac jumper will be the perfect pullover/slouch sweater for your post-gym walk home, and the studded vest adds that edge if you’re a bit of a ‘rocker girl’ like me – think Balmain!  Next also have some of their own amazing gear which exudes the sports luxe trend! For instance, the purple lace racer back vest and stripe number tee are amazing for those of you who are on a student budget like me, and cannot afford to splash out on Stella McCartney! Take a leaf out of Isabel Marant’s book and team your number tees with similar coloured joggers. And finally, we can not include a Union Jack scarf into the mix – this is after-all  based on the Olympics – at only £10 this is one of the cheapest flag scarfs I have seen, and trust me, I have been looking!

Winning these Next vouchers would be amazing as I can invest in all of this ‘gym gear’ and get fit for Malta. And with the sports luxe trend huge at the moment; I can also wear these pieces out of the gym, as they are all versatile.

Now my gym gear wishlist is completed, I have included some top tunes to get us all motivated and into the Olympic spirit too!

1. Queen of Hearts Necklace £6 Temporary-Secretary – Regular readers will know that I LOVE gold necklaces! So this Queen of Hearts necklace is no exception! It’s so cute and is the perfect treat for Valentine’s Day!

2. Pink ¾ Blazer £40 River Island – This pastel pink blazer will jazz up the polka-dot dress nicely! The inspiration to include this bright colour into my wishlist comes from Valentino, Alexander McQueen and Prada, whose ‘pretty and girly’ designs dominated the catwalks of London, Paris, Milan and New York.

3. Black Spot Mesh Bodycon Dress £18 Desire – Okay so this Stella McCartney-esque dress was so last season. But I think it mixes well with the Valentine’s vibe! This dress is perfect for a night out (may it be a romantic one or a girls night out), and it will show off them beautiful curves of yours!

4. Love Friendship Bracelet £12 Accessorize – I’m not really a big fan of bracelets (they always break on me), but this friendship bracelet is so cute and simple! It would bode well with my festival bands which are currently taking residence on my wrist!

So that’s my Valentine’s Wednesday Wishlist special! Tonight I am attending the Spring Fashion Show in Manchester so look out for catwalk reports and an event review!

This Week’s Nails is all about polka-dots!

Polka-dots were featured a lot in London, Paris, New York and Milan Fashion Weeks, with Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and David Koma, including this spotty print into their Autumn/Winter 2011 collections.

So when it came to This Week’s Nails, I had to incorporate this big trend into my ‘nail art’.

I chose a deep, dark red for the base colour and ‘dotted’ my nails with Luscious white nail varnish using the blunt end of a cocktail stick.

Here is the nail varnish I used to achieve my look:

L-R2 in 1 Top Coat & Nail Hardener Superdrug, Nails Inc. London Nail Varnish in Tate, Free (RRP £5) via Glamour Magazine and Luscious Nail Varnish in White, Free  via a magazine I bought ages ago.

Similar to the last nails post, I used Superdrug’s 2 in 1 Top Coat & Nail Hardener as my base and top coat. I then applied two coats of the Nails Inc. polish. I have to say, I love the colour! Dark red is one of my favourite colours and I didn’t have this colour in my nail varnish collection, so thanks Glamour for the freebie!

Here is the finished look of the nails:
As you can see I went for ‘big polka-dots’, and tried to cover my nails in them, rather than just having two or three. The Nails Inc. varnish had an average drying time, and I am pleased with how they turned out.

However, when I went wrong with one of the nails, the polish left a pink stain and despite using numerous amounts of  nail varnish remover and cotton balls to remove the ‘pink stain’, it was still visible. This may be due to my nail varnish remover (which is Cutex by the way), or to the nail polish itself. I will have to wait and see what the state of my nails is in when I take it off, but for now, I love them!

That’s all for This Week’s Nails, look out for next week’s post on them!

This weekend I went to Blackpool to sample the shops, the food and of course, Blackpool Illuminations!
Here is a quick post on what I got up to!

Apology
Big apologies for not posting a lot throughout the past couple of weeks! I have been very busy with uni assignments, work, my radio show and doing things for other blogs. However, I will be back in full form this week – I have plenty of post ideas lined up, I just need to write them! So stay tuned, and thank you for sticking with me and reading my blog, I appreciate it!

Outfit
Apologies aside, here is the outfit I wore. I decided to incorporate a bit of ‘goth’ into my look with the cross necklace (which later broke when I was in the arcades – gutted!), my vintage black cut-up Levi’s, vintage boots and my trusty Primark tights. I wanted to wear a cosy jumper to complete the look, so I opted for my polka-dot Primark number! Polka-dots are big at the moment with Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs including them in their Autumn/Winter 2011 collections, so I had to include this knit into today’s look!

Jumper – Primark
Cross Necklace – Primark
Tape Measure Ring – Topman
Levi Shorts – Vintage (via Urban Outfitters)
Tights – Primark
Boots – Vintage

Savvy Spending
As soon as I arrived in Blackpool I marched to Republic to buy some more ‘uniform’ clothes. I had a quick dash around the small store and settled for this black and white star crop blouse for only £10!

This blouse reminds me of up-and-coming boutique; Numph’s white & black Luella Bat Print Blouse, from online fashion store My Label. I love this blouse, which is owned by top bloggers such as Gem Fatale and Carrie of Wish Wish Wish. However, I chose to opt for a quite different and cheaper version which I could wear for work. I would pair this with my River Island light blue skinny jeans and metallic vest top.

River Island was my next and final stop. Why you ask? I ended up spending a whopping £60 in there! I didn’t mean to spend that much, but I just couldn’t help myself when my eyes caught this lovely vintage-style black beaded dress!

I have been looking for a dress similar to this one for ages, and when I saw it, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bag this baby! I could wear this dress for nights out with the girls and special occasions. I could also make like Altuzarra and team it with a Miss Selfridge khaki parka – the possibilities are endless! Despite the fact these thoughts were running through my mind, my hand was still shaking at the cash desk. In my mind I was thinking: “Hello overdraft!”

Unfortunately as soon as I bought my new dress, my ‘sensible’ side started to rear its ugly end and I decided that £70 was enough to spend on a day’s shopping trip. Hey, I still needed to hit the arcades and spend lots of money in there!

Ooh La Laa Pizza Express!
Me and Ali chose to eat at Pizza Express for tea. Both of us had never been to Pizza Express before and heard lots of raving reviews from our friends, so we decided to give it a try. And boy, was it worth it!

I ordered garlic bread for starter, whilst Ali opted for the chilli version. The garlic bread was just the perfect size for a little one like me! Usually, when you order garlic bread in Italian restaurants you are greeted with a full on 11 inch pizza version! So I was happy when this one turned up on my table.

For mains Ali decided to have the chef’s special hot pizza, whereas I went for pizza with a vegetarian mushroom topping. I really enjoyed my pizza, despite not being able to finish it! After Ali ate his pizza, he decided it wasn’t hot at all – this is the guy who piles on extra hot sauce on his Nandos meals! So it didn’t really surprise me when he claimed it wasn’t spicy enough for him.

Even though we were both full, we decided to share PE’s chocolate fudge cake dessert – which we finished off within minutes of it arriving! It was so nice, and wasn’t as bitter, or ‘too chocolaty’ as I thought it would be!

Overall, I enjoyed my tea at Pizza Express, and would happily go again – although I would skip the starters so I can finish off the mains next time!

Blackpool Sights
After our meal, we decided to have a long walk along the Promenade and view the illuminations. We had also managed to catch the sun set!
Watching the sun set by the beach was beautiful and prepared us for the illuminations. I have never been to see the illuminations before, despite living nearer to Blackpool than Ali (who lives in Ipswich by the way!) So it was a nice experience to walk down the Promenade and take in our surroundings before hitting our last stop, Coral Island.
Coral Island is basically a casino, but with games, bingo and arcades. Me and Ali tried to win as many tickets as we could, so we could win each other prizes. We played Guitar Hero, went on the dance mat and played Deal or No Deal. In the end, Ali won me this cute Coral Island bear!

Overall it was such a fun and nice day out after handing in our uni assignment! We both enjoyed the illuminations, and of course Pizza Express!

Have you guys been to Blackpool? What do you think of it?

EDo4Forget Stella McCartney, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana! This season, it’s all about Croatia’s emerging designer talent, Fjaba!

With their embellished sequin blouses, colour-block corsets and silk-layered tunics in tow, Fjaba have something different to offer than their European contemporaries.

Founded in 2006 by style-savvy sisters, Mirna and Ida, Fjaba debuted in the world of fashion in 2007 at Cro-à-Porter – a fashion project which promotes up-and-coming Croatian fashion designers – held in Zagreb, Croatia. The success of this event then catapulted them into the leagues of the high-fashion elite, leading them to appear in seven seasons of Croatian Fashion Week!

Things could not have gotten any better for Croatia’s new talent, as British style bibles; Elle, Marie Claire, Cosmopolitan and Grazia have proved, when they showcased the duo’s designs in their popular magazines, thus spreading the ‘Fjaba love’!

It is safe to say that Fjaba certainly have an eclectic take on fashion, as seen in their debut at London Fashion Week, earlier this year. Their Autumn/Winter 2011 collection was described as “an unforgettable fairy tale with a twist.” Think of a stylish Princess Leia going dark side.

Here is a video from their London Fashion Week debut, showcasing their A/W 2011 collection:

If you want to achieve Fjaba’s looks for less, then look no further!
Here is my high street version of one my favourite outfits from their designs.

From Top to Bottom: Curved Black Blouse, Beaded Fabric Collar, Black Double Facet Stretch Bracelet, A Line Mini Skirt in Lace.

As you can see, you can achieve Fjaba’s look for less than half the price of this Peek-a-boo tunic dress, which is one of my Fjaba favourites!

Fjaba are now well on their way to European domination, with having secured several international placements for their ‘luxury label’, which is currently available in some parts of Europe. For UK readers, you can purchase their designs through Kay Flawless Fashion.

The design duo will be heading back to the UK next month for an independent fashion show, which will include 10 up-and-coming designers. For more information about the event, check out TellusFashion.com!
