crazy

Cats. You either love them or hate them. But either way, it seems that these furry animals have made a huge impact in the fashion world, and here’s why!

The ‘cat-craze’ began in Spring 2010, when Italian designer brand Miu Miu took the catwalks by storm, with their famous and iconic cat print designs. The high street soon took note – from Zara to online retailer ASOS including these cute creatures in their collections. It seemed that cat print had taken centre stage in the fashion world, and had created a new generation of cat lovers. By Autumn 2010, the ‘cat-craze’ bowed out gracefully to pave way for camel tones and grunge glamour. Talk about a cat-astrophe!

But now, two years later, it seems that cat print is making a comeback. From emerging designer Orla Kiely’s cat print scarves to Charlotte Olympia’s designer dupes appearing on the high street – I mean who could seriously turn down a pair of adorable kitty flats? And with more celebs than ever wearing cat print as the new black – think country-pop singer Taylor Swift, and of course British designer and style icon Victoria Beckham – the ‘cat-craze’ is back for 2012. Meow!

So to celebrate the return of the ‘cat-craze’, I have gathered some ‘Top Cat’ buys for you below. Enjoy!

From Left to Right: 1. River Island Rose Gold Tone Cat Ring, 2. Missguided Cat Face Platform Wedges, 3. Elsie Belle Jewellery Vintage Cat Cameo Necklace, 4. ASOS Shirt with Cat Embroidery, 5. Urban Outfitter Cat Print Crop Sweater, 6. Topshop Cat Bracelet, 7. Miss Selfridge Cat Print Brief & 8. ASOS Cat Print iPhone Case.

I personally love the River Island ring, and the embroidered shirt!
What are your thoughts on the ‘cat-craze’ comeback?

With the Olympics only two months away, there’s no better time than now to celebrate all things British, whilst trying to achieve that must-have bikini bod. Fancy something a bit different to wear to the gym? Then look no further as with Next’s incredible summer collection at your fingertips, you can not only exude patriotism, but you can also work out in style!

The Sports Luxe trend has brought together two things which we could only dream of combining – style and sport – with top designers such as Phillip Lim, Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang and even British style icon; Victoria Beckham including sporty, but fashionable pieces in their Spring/Summer 2012 collections!

The mood board above is the inspiration for my Next wishlist, with a classic and iconic British theme taking precedence – such as the red double decker bus, Her Majesty’s crown and the Queen’s Guard. Combining the sports luxe trend with the Olympics makes it relevant to people who are in the gym and are trying to achieve that pre-holiday bod. It shows that even though we’re not all amazing athletes that we can feel a part of the Olympics, and that it can bring Britain together through our love for sport and fashion.

With my holiday to Malta only a few months away (okay it’s more like five months, but who’s counting?), I am on a mission to achieve a top-notch bikini bod, and with these items from Next’s summer collection, I can not only feel amazing after my post-gym burn, but I can show off my ‘inner fashionista’ too! Who said that gym gear has to be plain and boring?

From Left to Right: 1. Adidas Stella McCartney Performance Tank – £38, Adidas Stella McCartney Navy Leggings – £42, Purple Lace Racer Back Vest – £28, Geri Floral Swimsuit – £35, Official Team GB Olympic Scarf – £10, Stripe Number T-Shirt – £20, Adidas Stella McCartney Red Running Jacket – £68 & Purple Mesh Sweater – £28.

These Adidas/Stella McCartney designs are a perfect example of two house-hold name brands which are proving that sport and fashion CAN mix. The best thing about this wishlist is that with vibrant colour-blocking and clashing prints massive this season, you can mix-and-match everything – giving you more variety in your gym gear! Pastels are huge at the moment with Alexander McQueen, Emilio De La Morena and PPQ all sending their models in these delicious ice cream shades down the runway.  This lilac jumper will be the perfect pullover/slouch sweater for your post-gym walk home, and the studded vest adds that edge if you’re a bit of a ‘rocker girl’ like me – think Balmain!  Next also have some of their own amazing gear which exudes the sports luxe trend! For instance, the purple lace racer back vest and stripe number tee are amazing for those of you who are on a student budget like me, and cannot afford to splash out on Stella McCartney! Take a leaf out of Isabel Marant’s book and team your number tees with similar coloured joggers. And finally, we can not include a Union Jack scarf into the mix – this is after-all  based on the Olympics – at only £10 this is one of the cheapest flag scarfs I have seen, and trust me, I have been looking!

Winning these Next vouchers would be amazing as I can invest in all of this ‘gym gear’ and get fit for Malta. And with the sports luxe trend huge at the moment; I can also wear these pieces out of the gym, as they are all versatile.

Now my gym gear wishlist is completed, I have included some top tunes to get us all motivated and into the Olympic spirit too!

Today’s Wednesday Wishlist is all about fabulous online retailer, Missguided!

Missguided has been on my radar for some time now, but it wasn’t until earlier this month that I actually took the time to browse the online retailer, and let me tell you – I instantly fell in love with some of their amazing clothes!

From L-R: 1. Enrita Leather Trim Lace Blouse, 2. Ingrid Tassel Ribbed Bodycon Skirt, 3. Sunisa Crocodile Skin Envelope Tote Bag, 4. Velda Mirrored Teashade Sunglasses, 5. USA Frayed Denim Shorts & 6. Studded Collar Skater Dress.

1. Enrita Leather Trim Lace Blouse, £22.99 – Lace is big this season, with designers such as Miu Miu’s stunning red and gold dress, Luisa Beccaria’s blue midi and Valentino’s crisp white gowns turning heads at fashion week. So when I saw this edgy blouse on the Missguided website, I had to include it in my Wednesday Wishlist! As you can see, I have ‘tucked’ it in the tassel Bodycon skirt below; this outfit would be perfect for a night out with the girls, or for a special occasion. If I wanted a more casual look, I could also team this blouse with these Topshop dip-dye denim shorts and black wedge sandals from River Island.

2. Ingrid Tassel Ribbed Bodycon Skirt, £22.99 – The ‘Great Gatsby’ look took the catwalks of Marchesa, Ralph Lauren and Etro by storm. So I was eagerly anticipating what the high street were going to come up with in terms of designing their own versions of this 20s trend – and it’s safe to say that Missguided definitely did not disappoint with this sultry Bodycon tassel skirt! Dip hem skirts seem to be all the ‘rage’ at the moment, so it’s refreshing to have a different type of skirt available for those who want to embrace their ‘inner Gatsby girl’. At £22.99 this skirt is practically a steal, so if you fancy channelling the great 1920s, grab yours now!

3. Sunisa Crocodile Skin Envelope Tote Bag, £28.99 – As with previous wishlists, pastel colours are a trend which I have been coveting ever since they graced the runway of House of Holland, Jaeger and J W Anderson. This pastel pink crocodile skin envelope bag is perfect for someone like me, who prefers to add minimal pastel accessories to her outfits, rather than look like an ice cream sorbet (hey it’s a good look, but it’s not for me!)  This bag will also finish off the outfit in my wishlist nicely!

n …4. Velda Mirrored Teashade Sunglasses, £4.99 – These sunglasses are so cute and funky! They remind me of the late John Lennon, and what better way to channel this iconic musician than by bagging these mirrored Teashade sunnies?!  Now all we need is the summer sun…

5. USA Frayed Denim Shorts, £24.99 – The ‘Americana’ trend is a big hit this Spring/Summer with high street stores such as Republic, Topshop and Miss Selfridge including this famous flag in their collections.  These shorts are perfect for festival season, and will look great on the beach! Just take inspiration from Marina Diamandis, from Marina and The Diamonds, who rocks her American flag shorts!

6. Studded Collar Skater Dress, £27.99 – And finally, this studded collar skater dress is perfect for both the daytime and a night out on the town! This dress reminds me of Balmain, who is one of my favourite designers – I love their S/S 12 collection! So this is my high street take on the Parisian fashion house.  I would toughen this look up even more by wearing this grey River Island PU jacket and Missguided’s ‘killer’ platforms!

There’s my wishlist! Do you like Missguided? What are your favourite items at the moment?

Style-savvy shop Miss Selfridge has recently launched their Project #2 collection, which is all about embracing your ‘inner 90’s child’.

The 32-piece collection was designed by Miss Selfridge’s New Generation of Talent, and features versatile pieces such as geometric prints, cut-out bras, spiky jewellery and acid denim.  I personally LOVE this collection, as I feel it ties in a bit with my personal style.  I guess you can say that there’s a little ‘grungy 90’s kid’ in me! As you can see below, I have picked five of my favourite items from this new collection.

From L-R: 1. Studded Boater Hat, 2. Studded Acid Wash Short, 3. Couples Print Vest, 4. Stud Bucket Bag & 5. Black High Top Trainer.

The studded bowler hat and bucket bag are my ULTIMATE must-have items from this collection! I have been searching everywhere for a bucket bag which isn’t too expensive, so Miss Selfridge have definitely hit the jackpot by bringing this baby out! The acid denim shorts are another item of clothing I have been lusting after for ages! Denim is massive this season with designers such as Balmain, Acne and Christopher Kane including this fabric in their Spring/Summer 2012 collections. So it comes to no surprise that I HAD to include it in my favourite five. This pair will definitely ‘grunge’ up any outfit.

Overall, I am impressed with this collection and I cannot wait for my student loan to come in so I can snap up some stuff! If you need some style inspiration Miss Selfridge has teamed up with Olivia from What Olivia Did, to model and style the collection, click here to see her amazing styling!

This week’s nails are going all ‘ombre-fied’!

(Images sourced from here)

Ombre tones were a huge trend which dominated the Spring/Summer 2012 catwalks of Charlotte Ronson, Louis Vuitton and Giorgio Armani Couture. So it comes to no surprise that I had to feature this trend on my nails this week!

Here is an image of what I used to achieve my ombre nails!
From L-R Collection 2000 Hot Looks in Show Off , 2 in 1 Top Coat & Nail Hardener Superdrug & 17 Lasting Fix Nail Polish in Mint Choc Chip Boots.

Firstly, I applied the top coat & nail hardener as a base coat, which only takes up to a minute to dry. I then painted half of my nails with one coat of Collection 2000 ‘Show Off’. This colour is one of my favourites as it’s so bright! Afterwards I then painted the other half of my nails (from the middle to the tip) with my candy-coloured 17 polish in ‘Mint Choc Chip’, which I bought in my Boots Bargains post. Again I only applied the one coat and waited for it dry. Finally, after two minutes of drying, I created wavy lines over the middle where the two colours meet with my Collection 2000 ‘Show Off’ polish. Due to only applying the one coat of it at the beginning, it created sort of a ‘gradual’ ombre effect to the ‘Mint Choc Chip’ colour.  Then well ah!

Here is the finished look of the nails:
ombrenailsTo say that I have never attempted ombre nails, I think these bad boys are okay! The wavy lines could have been better but oh well! I have to say both nail polishes dried really fast, which is quite unusual for me as I always end up with varnishes that have a long drying time!

If you’re looking for more ombre nail ideas, one of my favourite bloggers; LLYMLRS has done an ombre post, but has painted each of her nails a lighter colour than the first, if you want to check it out here.

That’s all for this week’s nails, what do you think of my attempt? Have you attempted ombre nails before? I’d love to have a look!

From Catwalk to High Street is back! And what better way to kick off 2012 in savvy-style than to dedicate the first 2012 feature to French fashion-house Balmain!

Balmain is one of my favourite fashion houses because their look is so edgy and so ‘me’. So it comes to no surprise that I had to dedicate this feature on such an iconic Parisian design team! The three key trends which were showcased in Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection were leather, embellishments and crisp, detailed shirts. Another one could be the flood of denim, note the trousers below!

You can view a video of Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2012 show below:

(Video was taken by FataleFashion)

The look below was chosen because it was one of my personal favourites from the S/S 2012 collection – it incorporates shorts (most of you may know that I live in shorts and tights), as well as showcasing the huge trend of embellishment.  As always, I aim to provide a designer look-for-less and I hope that this one doesn’t disappoint!

(Catwalk image from here)

Black Scallop Top, £16, River Island – This scallop top is plain and simple – which is all you need as in this outfit your embellished shorts will do the talking! At a fairly priced £16 (which isn’t bad for River), this top is a great investment piece for both a casual day time lunch and on a night out with the girls!

Gold Basket Weave Shank Buttons, £1.01 for 4, Sew Essential – As you can see the scallop top above doesn’t have any simple embellishment down the side, and seeing as this is From Catwalk to High Street I just HAD to add these gold basket weave shank buttons into the mix! For only £2.02 (for 8 which is just the perfect amount) you can customise your £16 River Island number into a £££ blinged-up Balmain designer top!

Cream Embellished Shorts, £25, Topshop – These Topshop shorts were the closest product I could find which are similar to Balmain’s high-waisted number! They are currently on sale for £25, and the last time I looked they only had a few left so you better be quick if you want to snap this baby up!

Black and Gold Metal Bracelet Pack, £10, ASOS – This outfit does not need much accessorising as you have the focus on the embellishment. But these bracelets will finish the look off nicely, and if you can afford to fork out another £10 for another set of bracelets, you could tie the bangles up and create your own cuffs –à la Balmain!

Albi Mid Ankle Boots, £78, Topshop – Finally, these sexy Topshop black ankle boots are a perfect match to end this From Catwalk to High Street Balmain special! At £78 they are a tad pricey, but the heel will lengthen those luscious legs of yours (especially if you’re a shorty like me), and the shoe will allow focus to be drawn to the embellished top and shorts.

That’s my take on Balmain. What are your thoughts about their Spring/Summer 2012 collection?
