TRAVEL – trek america’s grand trek: elko, nevada desert

travel - trekamericas grand trek day 14 nevada desertWoke up feeling quite fresh this morning after last night’s antics and was freezing cold! A nice warm shower in the camp’s solo bathrooms (the best KOA bathrooms we’ve been to so far), however, definitely made me feel better for our drive to Nevada!

We did our standard routine of packing up out tents (practically pros now), had breakfast and headed into the van for a nine hour (yup, you read that right), NINE hour drive. On the way we stopped at an outdoor shop and had lunch outside a random museum before arriving at our campsite.

linebreakThere were no words to describe this campsite. Apart from: ‘oh my gosh, we’re all gonna die in some desert horror movie!’ The site was empty, filled with tumbleweed, weird bugs and the odd snake… To perk us up a bit, Steve initiated a water fight which soon made us feel a lot better. Annalie, Rob, Emma and Steph all cooked a beef stroganoff and a few of us went to the lake to watch the sunset and have a splash around.

We ended the night the only way we knew how, drinking games (I’ve never drunken so much on so many nights consecutively until this trip), before heading to bed and California tomorrow!

Day 14 and we stopped in the Nevada desert on our way to California. It was such a long drive and the campsite we arrived at was so desolate! We even saw snakes! A water fight and drinking games did however take our minds off it and the next day we headed to Lake Tahoe to paddleboard and hang out at the beach. Then we arrived at Yosemite where we did plenty of hiking (thunderstorms happened, again), saw some Giant Sequoias and had a food fight! San Francisco was the next stop where we did a foggy sunset cruise, partied the nights away and celebrated the 4th July, before heading to the beautiful Californian Coast where we saw whales, dolphins and elephant seals!
