With Christmas only a day away, here are my six favourite must-have items! Hint hint!

1. Petites Biker Trench, £85, Miss Selfridge – I have been looking for a nice coat for ages, and this Miss Selfridge biker trench is perfect to keep me going this Winter! I know, I know, it doesn’t exactly scream out ‘WINTER COAT’, but for £85 it’s not only on trend – the leather touch reminds me of DKNY – but I can also layer it up with my gorgeous green tartan scarf too!

2. Loverdose by Diesel, £28.50 for 30ml, The Perfume Shop – Loverdose is my favourite perfume in the entire world, so how could I not add this into my Christmas wishlist? It’s perfectly packaged and I love its floral scent! One of my best friends bought me this for my 21st birthday, but you can never have too much perfume, right?

3. White Friendship Bracelet By Marc By Marc Jacobs, £40, Harvey Nichols – I’m not usually into my designer gear (I’m more of a high street/vintage girl), but I love this Marc by Marc Jacobs friendship bracelet! It’s so simple but yet sophisticated, and it will go with anything and everything!

4. Alexander Wang Knockoff Bag, £37.99, eBay – Remember last year’s Christmas wishlist, where I had my eyes set on a gorgeous leather multi-strap Alexander Wag tote? Well here is the knock-off version! It may not be the real thing, but I would love to get my hands on it!

5. Project #3 Black Sequin Body, £39, Miss Selfridge – You may have noticed that Miss Selfridge is one of my favourite shops, and as I was having my daily peruse of their website, my eyes were instantly drawn to this gorgeous sequin body! At £39 it may be pricey, but add these Missguided leather shorts and some peep-toe shoe boots from River Island, and you’ll be Belle of the New Year’s Eve Ball!

6. Black Embellished Shorts, £45, River Island – And finally, I have been after some high-waisted embellished shorts for a while now, and these are the PERFECT pair for me! Embellishment is big this season with the likes of Balmain, Jenny Packham and Mark Fast sending their models down the runway with these party-inspired pieces. Just add a plain white H&M vest, and these killer Topshop heels to finish the outfit off.

This week’s Wednesday Wishlist is a Miss Selfridge ‘must-have’ special!

From L-R: 1. Silver Lame Dipback Tee, 2. Black Floral Denim Hotpants, 3. Buddha Ring, 4.Petites Ombre Shirt, 5. Rhinestone Chain Loop & 6. Stud Front Dipback Tee.

1. Silver Lame Dipback Tee, £25 – Metallics were a key Autumn/Winter 2011 trend, but they are still clinging on for ‘trend-glory’ this season with Herve Leger, Givenchy and Sportsmax showcasing these futuristic colours in their S/S 2012 collections. I would pair this top with my Republic black leggings and my silver studded shoes.

2. Black Floral Denim Hotpants, £28 – Florals are always a trend which always crops up at this time of year, with designers such as Matthew Williamson, Mary Katrantzou and dynamic duo Proenza Schouler turning heads with their flower power pieces at their respective fashion weeks.  These shorts would look perfect with a simple white Topshop tee and Office’s pink underground creepers. For the current ‘clash’ look, which is popular with celebrities such as Diane Kruger and Olivia Palermo, team your florals with stripes or leopard print. For this trend, anything goes!

3. Buddha Ring, £6.50 – I was drawn to this Buddha ring because believe it or not, this religion is part of my heritage (I’m half Thai). I used to own quite a few religious Thai trinkets and necklaces, but over the years I have somehow lost them! This Buddha ring reminds me of ‘the other part of my life’, and it’s also gold, which is my favourite jewellery colour – so I HAD to include it in my Wednesday Wishlist! There were only a few left in stock the last time I checked so if you want to snap this up, then you have gotta be quick!

4. Petites Ombre Shirt, £32 – Ombre is BACK, and it is another trend which is set to rock in the Spring/Summer 2012 fashion stakes, with top fashion bloggers ‘ombre-ing’ their hair such as Lily Melrose and Olivia Purvis, to Charlotte Ronson and Louis Vuitton, who have sent dip-dyed pieces down the runway.  This would look great with bloggers favourite American Apparel disco pants and black high top flatforms.

5. Rhinestone Chain Loop, £25 – Collar necklaces were big on the catwalks of Sass & Bide and Oscar De Le Renta. Despite this necklace being HUGE and probably weighing a tonne, it’s still amazing in my eyes!  It would look great under the collar of a crisp white shirt.

6. Stud Front Dipback Tee, £35 – I am in love with studded clothing and accessories at the moment! Let’s just say it’s my ‘inner-Balmain’ which is luring me to this trend. This tee can be dressed up for the day time – with some Boohoo black wet look leggings and Chelsea boots, or it can be dressed up to the nines with some luscious leather shorts from Missguided and River Island black and white heels, for a night out with the girls!

What are your thoughts on Miss Selfridge? Are there any items which take your fancy?

ersonal

For the past few weeks I have been feeling really run down and stressed, due to a number of things -uni, work, money and life in general. So today I decided to do a bit of retail therapy – well Primark therapy – and checked out what the Preston store had to offer!

I only had 30 minutes to do some speedy shopping, as Ali had to go and prepare for his awesome radio show; Extra Time, on Guild Radio (little plug there for you guys!).

I was rushing around a quite surprisingly tidy Primark. For those of you who are international readers, Primark is basically a fairly cheap store which sells basic clothes, as well as one off ‘on-trend’ items. It’s also known for being a really untidy store (clothes all over the floor etc.) So I was shocked to see that the place was actually tidy!

Anyway, I picked up a few items, and in total spent £34, which is quite expensive for three things, but boy, they are worth it!

I bought:
‘Leather’ jacket, £20 – Despite already owning a black leather jacket (with a fur collar), I couldn’t help but buy this simple hooded version. I know that some of Primark’s ‘leather’ jackets look really cheap, but by pairing this baby with the right clothing and accessories, it will look amazing! The hood may ‘downgrade’ the jacket, but it will be so handy if it rains – and it always rains in Preston!

Polka dot grey & dark pink jumper , (the jumper is darker IRL) £12 – Polka dots are huge this season with Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney and Diane von Furstenberg all including this eclectic print into their Autumn/Winter 2011 collections.  So it comes to no surprise that I had to effectively ‘jump on the bandwagon’ and purchase this gorgeous polka dot jumper! Many ‘typical’ polka dot prints consist of monochrome colours, so this buy was a little bit different to the norm, which I like! I can team this jumper with my leather shorts and my new vintage boots for a cheeky shopping trip, or I can wear it with this Topshop bodycon skirt and these shoe boots from Republic for a night out with the girls – the possibilities are endless!

Brassy deer ring £2 – The final item I bought was this adorable deer ring! As regular readers know, I LOVE my rings! So I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to add this brassy ring to my ever-growing collection. This ring can be worn with practically any outfit! I can also pair this baby with other similar colour rings that I have, for the ‘stacked’ effect. For £2, this is a well invested piece of jewellery.

I was fairly impressed with Primark today, as I saw quite a few ‘on-trend’ clothes, and even some ‘unique’ clothes, which is so different from their usual basic jersey and jumper stuff. I think Primark is a bit of a ‘hit and miss’, one day you’ll go in there and find loads of nice clothes which suit your style, and other days, you hardly find anything.  I definitely think today was one of them days where I saw loads of things to buy, but I simply didn’t have the time to have a good rummage through the clothes.

What do you guys think of Primark? It would be interesting to hear your thoughts!

Here is a little feature on the Town Hall catwalk show I attended, as part of fashion event; Style Birmingham last week. Click on the links if you want to read Style Birmingham part one and part two!

The Town Hall fashion show was in so many ways very different to the Bullring show. For example in this spectacular show, the models showcased their acting and interpretative dancing skills, which was very surprising for visitors!

They also set the scene for all nine collections very well – I was particularly impressed with the ‘Shades of Autumn’ scene, where the models danced whilst striking some very strong poses at the same time!

I loved the ‘New Native’ scene, particularly because of the folky/tribal prints and the fact that you can incorporate this trend into your look so easily. If you’re a Topshop girl, make sure you bag this beaded collar necklace, chiffon playsuit or these über cool tribal earrings to spice up your wardrobe! Or if you want to be a fierce warrior but you’re on a budget, try New Look’s fringe t-shirt for £14.99 (there is currently 20% discount for students both online and instore!) or this quirky Aztec print hat to achieve the ‘New Native’ look!

The ‘Shades of Autumn’ scene basically summed up the staple colours you need in your wardrobe for Autumn/Winter 2011. Think neutrals such as cream (as seen on the model below) and brown, or if you want your staple piece to ‘pop’, include an orange or green palette into your closet. Accessorise with faux fur Cossacks such as this one from New Look, for a cheap £8.99 to complete your outfit.

I loved, loved, loved this scene! ‘Future Avatars’ was all about metallics, from short sequin dresses, to sparkly jumpers clashed with distressed jeans (as seen in the image below), to even sequin hoodies!  By adding just one metallic piece to your outfit, you will instantly be on trend! Republic, Urban Outfitters and Jaeger all have knitted jumpers which you must have this Autumn/Winter! If you don’t fancy metallic clothing, try some accessories – I especially love the headpiece that the model below is wearing!). Head to H&M for this funky metal chain necklace or try River Island for some glamorous metallic bags. One bag which caught my eye was this silver fringed one for a whopping £150! If you’re like me and live on a budget, try this grey studded purse for only £17.

When I saw that ‘Vintage Glamour’ would grace down the Birmingham catwalk, I didn’t really know what I would make of it. I mean vintage does play an important part in fashion and in today’s world; there are many more ‘vintage’ stores than there were in the last 10 years or so. So how can something which is so easily accessible (just by looking in your mum’s wardrobe) be a trend?

Well, despite my initial questions, I believe that ‘Vintage Glamour’ did justice for the vintage world. The looks were reminiscent of 1920s to 1940s glamour, which I think is what the scene was all about. Take inspiration from intricate dresses worn on celebrities such as Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and style icon Mary-Kate Olsen. The colour palette for this trend was mainly taupe, white, black, grey and gold – some of the colours I’m sure will be in every girl’s wardrobe!

The final scene was ‘Dark Side’ and the outfits were basically all black. Think the Addams family but with more ‘style’. Despite the one block colour, the models pulled off these looks perfectly without going gothic! Try black zip dresses such as this one from Republic, or a pussy bow blouse from River Island, as well as Boohoo’s PU leather shorts. Anything stylishly black goes and I guess the black coloured-clothing world really is your oyster for this trend!

That’s it for Style Birmingham; hopefully I covered everything you wanted to know! Look out for future fashion event posts!

Today I went on a cheeky little shopping trip to Leeds city centre to sample the high street stores’s delights! Here are my findings, along with some lovely vintage items I purchased at Leeds Festival last week!

After spending most nights watching The Tribe – a TV series where every adult in the world is ‘wiped out’ by a virus which leaves the children to fend for themselves – I have been fascinated by the style of the characters. Think down town street style mixed with crazy hair styles and tribal jewellery!

One of the characters in particular; Amber, has unique but simple costumes! I was especially amazed with the eccentric silver ear cuffs she wears in series one, so I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy this lovely ear cuff from Topshop below!

earcuffEar Cuff – Topshop

This ear cuff will team up with the outfit I bought from River Island perfectly! Metallic is a hot trend for Autumn/Winter 2011 with designers such as Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton sporting this eclectic trend down the runways of New York, London, Paris and Milan. So it comes to no surprise that I bought this silver metallic vest for £20 from one of Britain’s best high street stores!

As you can see in the outfit below, I paired this pocket vest with a black midi tube skirt – which as you can see on me looks more like a maxi than a midi! This was the beauty of this £15 purchase – oh and having short legs! This outfit is perfect for a laid back lunch or if you add these Urban Outfitters leopard print boots to the mix, makes for a perfect night out with the girls!

Another RI purchase was this baggy MTV crop top which I tucked into these (excuse the word) sexy vintage leather shorts which I bought at Leeds Festival. As you know fetish and leather are massive trends for the Autumn/Winter season with Acne and Nina Ricci incorporating these trends into their designs, and these leather shorts are perfect for achieving the designer look for less this season. My newly purchased gold Primark ring will finish off this look effortlessly.

Ring – Primark

My £5 vintage black boots are featured in all of the looks here, and were bought at the famous music festival I went to last week. I instantly fell in love with these babies and they have been glued to my feet ever since i purchased them!  They also have a small heel, which makes me feel much more confident and comfortable when I’m out and about stalking the streets of Leeds.

Boots – Vintage

My final purchase was this book below which I’ve wanted for months! 50 Fashion Designers You Should Know has always been on my wishlist, but being a poor uni student meant that I have never been able to spare some cash to buy it! Luckily after receiving some money a couple of weeks ago, I went straight down to Urban Outfitters and bought this book ASAP.  I have already started reading it, and I have learnt so much about designers such as Coco Chanel and MainBocher so expect a book review on this fashion encyclopaedia when I have finished reading it!

Book- Urban Outfitters

So there you go, my purchases that I have bought today totalling a very unhealthy £75.50 plus the £20 I spent at Leeds Fest .In other news, I might try and begin to post sole outfit posts so look forward to them!
