What words instantly come into your mind when you hear ‘Mary-Kate Olsen’? Twin? Actress? Fashion Designer? Style icon? Yep, that’s right, style icon.

The younger Olsen twin has been in the public spotlight for most of her life. It is not only her ability to act which puts her in the pages of Vogue Magazine, it’s her style. And that’s why this week’s Steal Her Style feature is dedicated to achieving Miss Olsen’s eccentric but simplistic look-for-less!

Think lively prints, basic colours and tons of accessorising and you’ve got Miss Olsen’s style to a tee.  So to help you guys get some inspiration, or maybe even a head start in the trend department, I have chosen to steal what Mary-Kate wore to The Art of Elysium Bright Lights event back in April, 2010. Now all you need are those beachy ‘just got out of bed’ locks!

Here is what Mary-Kate wore on the left-hand side of the image, and what I found similar on the right-hand side:
(Mary-Kate image is sourced from here)

Leopard Faux Fur Coat, £50, Miss Selfridge – Despite the fact that the Spring/Summer 2012 season is just around the corner, there is still no excuse to not indulge in a timeless piece such as the faux fur coat! Fur coats (real or not) were big on the Autumn/Winter catwalks of  Topshop Unique, Donna Karan and Giles. And they are perfect for those who are still suffering from those winter blues!

Structured Skater Dress, £46, Topshop – Skater dresses were featured in the Spring/Summer 2012 collections of British-born designer; Cushnie et Ochs, as well as London-based twins Felder Felder’s. However, if you can’t afford to splash out on this huge 2012 trend, then don’t worry! There are a number of structured skater dresses out there on the high street, from Republic’s ruby red number to River Island’s luscious leopard print dress – you are spoiled for choice!

Black Slim Tie, £8, Topman – A Mary-Kate Olsen outfit wouldn’t be complete without including a whole hoard of sporting accessories! This Topman tie will add a masculine edge to your outfit. Want to get more use out of your new tie? Then look to Ralph Lauren and Jason Wu for S/S 2012 inspiration.

Colour Mesh Bangle Pack, £12.50, Topshop – These cute coloured bangles from Topshop will complement the tie perfectly, as well as adding a ‘bohemian’ feel to the look. Orange tones were huge in the collections of Narciso Rodriguez, Michael Kors and Hermes. So why wait now? Invest in one of the hottest seasonal colours, and you’ll be sizzling your way through spring and summer!

Metal Ridged Ring, £6.50, Topshop – Like Mary-Kate, I love my rings! So I picked a few which matched her style, and a few which I liked too! This metal edge ring is perfect for adding a touch of masculinity to the outfit, along with the Topman tie.

Large Round Turquoise Ring, £28, Urban Outfitters – Most of Mary-Kate’s rings have turquoise stones infused in them, and what better ring to achieve MK’s look-for-less than this Urban Outfitter’s version?  It may be a bit on the pricey side, but for seasonal value, it ticks all the right trend boxes. Take inspiration from Marc Jacobs and Chanel, if you want to add more of this underwater colour into your wardrobes!

Made Brass Shikong’o Ring, £25, ASOS – This may be a small brass ring, but good things come in small packages – and this one doesn’t differ! This cute piece of jewellery can be incorporated into any look, and in the long term, will be a good investment in terms of cost-per-wear.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star Clutch, £22.50, Accessorize – This left-handed Olsen twin loves her kooky accessories, and nothing fits the bill better than this amazing Accessorize star clutch! It’s currently in the sale, so bag yours (see what I did there?), while you can!

Miso Gold Zip Boots, £34.99, Republic – Nothing beats a nice pair of shoe boots to stride in style! I have these beautiful babies, and I must say, they go with any outfit, and they make lengthen your legs perfectly!

There you go! Look out for another Steal Her Style feature in the near future! But for now, do you like this Olsen twin’s style? Or do you prefer her older sister Ashley’s?

This week I focus on Miss Selfridge’s vintage section and create three looks from what they have to offer.

According to Miss Selfridge, they ‘travel the world in search of vintage treasures’ and they’ve found some right gems too!  From embellished tops to classic Macs, these steals from the vintage section will nail the Autumn/Winter 2011 trends on the head!

Here are my three outfits below, with the items being from clock-wise round:

Outfit 1
VINTAGE!
Cream Cute Lace Blouse, £35 – This outfit is all about the new ‘ladylike’ trend which has emerged on the catwalks of 3.1 Phillip Lim and Jean Paul Gaultier. As ever on The Live Scene, I try to twist the trend to fit into my style. This lovely vintage cream blouse is ladylike in itself with the material made out of delicate lace (a Spring/Summer 2011 trend) and the burgundy bow-tie adds a touch of ladylike-meets-boyish glamour. At £35 this is definitely going to get snapped up by me!

VINTAGE! Petites Camel Peg Leg Trouser, £38 – This Autumn/Winter 2011 season, it’s all about the ‘modern trouser’. A piece which is the staple of your Autumn/Winter wardrobe that can be worn in so many looks. This camel peg leg trouser is my ‘modern trouser’, and adds to the ‘ladylike’ trend I am trying to achieve here. Designers ‘modern trousers’ include: Chanel’s wide leg trouser, Stella McCartney’s slim-leg trouser and Proenza Schouler’s print trouser.

VINTAGE! Secret Burgundy T-Bar Platform, £42 – T-bar platforms were one of the ‘must-have’ shoes on show during the Autumn/Winter 2011 fashion weeks. These gorgeous burgundy platforms match the bow-tie on the cream blouse perfectly, and elongate those pins of yours!

VINTAGE! Burgundy Leather Satchel Bag, £45 – I instantly fell in love with this satchel as soon as I saw it! This burgundy bag matches the shoes and the bow-tie effortlessly, and completes the outfit. This outfit has the perfect ‘ladylike-meets-boyish’ style which is what I was going for, and shows that you don’t need to be as eccentric in the ladylike department as Christian Dior to achieve this trend!

Outfit 2
VINTAGE!
Black Embellished Dress, £85 – Love, love, love this dress! At £85, it is a hefty price, however the dress oozes glamour (and don’t worry it’s not see through, there is a lining behind the embellishments!) The dress also reminds me of the new fetish trend which has appeared on the catwalks of Emanuel Ungaro, Chanel and the even sexier Felder Felder.  This dress is definitely a statement piece, which you can get a lot of use out of, as you can accessorize differently every time you wear it.

Khaki Animal Hood Parka, £85 – A parka you ask? As crazy as it sounds, designers from Alexander Wang to Joseph Altuzarra nailed this new trend perfectly. This parka from Miss Selfridge clashes with the going out dress flawlessly, and when you’re on a night out, what’s better to keep you warm? The inspiration behind this new trend is none other than supermodel Kate Moss. Kate Moss always likes to play differently when it comes to fashion, and when she wore her parka over her evening dress, the designers took note. With winter coming up, this would be the perfect but stylish cover up.

VINTAGE! Pearl Articulated Ring, £10 – Of course, I had to include a ring in This week’s wishlist! This vintage armour ring makes the outfit look more ‘going out chic’ rather than ‘morning after mess’. This ring with the studded shoes is all the glamour you need to accompany the dress, and at £10, this vintage piece is a bargain!

VINTAGE! Punk Leather Stud Ballerina, £42 – These punk studded flats are the perfect finish to outfit two. Not only do they match with the vintage articulated ring, they remind me of stylish savvies such as Nicky Hilton and Linda Evangelista. Definitely worthy of a purchase!

Outfit 3
VINTAGE!
Petites Sand Triple Collar Blouse, £30 – Outfit three is all about the boyish look meets back-to-school with a hint of colour-blocking. This triple collar blouse is the epitome of achieving the boyish look. By teaming it with the teal skirt, it will not only make you look on trend, but it can be dressed up for a night out, or it can be dressed down as it is for a casual stroll in the shopping centre. Think Dolce and Gabbana but more ‘out there’!

VINTAGE! Teal Knee Box Pleat Skirt, £32 – This vintage teal knee box skirt will add to the boyish meets back-to-school look I am trying to achieve here as well as highlighting the colour block trend. This instantly makes you look geek chic with the tan box bag and sunglasses as opposed to Plain Jane.

VINTAGE! Black Circle Frame Sunglasses, £3 – These simple sunglasses make the look more feminine, and because they’re only £3, no bargainista would say no! Nuff’ said.

VINTAGE! Tan Box Bag, £28 – This lovely and geeky tan box bag is perfect for achieving the boyish meets back-to-school look!  The dark brown border on the bag subtly matches the chocolate leather wedges and the brown belt on the teal skirt. The box itself is quite big, so it can fit your everyday essentials with ease. Practical AND fashionable… what more can you ask for?!

VINTAGE! Patsy Chocolate Leather Wedge, £68 – Last but not least is these beautiful chocolate leather wedges which finish the look off perfectly. The wedge gives you more height, and allows you to show off your legs a bit more, as well as making the look less masculine. At £68, these wedges should definitely have a place in your shoedrobe!

That is another weekly wishlist done; tune in next week where I will be scouring the New Look website to create three on-trend outfits for all of you budding fashionistas out there!

This week I have created three outfits from online savvy-store, ASOS. ASOS is the UK’S largest online-only fashion store and has been around for over 10 years, providing budding fashionistas with the latest trends priced from £5 to over £100.

These three looks are just snippets of what designers have predicted for the Autumn/Winter 2011 season. Think futuristic silhouettes, eccentric ladylike pieces and fabric clashes, just to name a few.  Enjoy.

Here they are from clock-wise round:

Outfit 1
ASOS Wiggle Mesh Body
, £30 – The number one Autumn/Winter 2011 trend which has graced the catwalks of Dolce & Gabbana, Felder Felder and Alexander McQueen is the fetish trend. I know what you’re thinking, ‘fetish??’ Yes, fetish. Despite the initial thought to fetish, the catwalks saw a more ‘demure’ fetish – so I’m not promoting handcuffs and whips before you ask! This body is oh-so-perfect for the ‘fetish’ look, and resembles this top by designer, Giles.  This is perfect for those who want to incorporate this trend into their wardrobe without needing to go over-the-top like sexy celebs; Rihanna and Britney Spears.

ASOS Premium Short with Leather Pockets, £50 – These lovely red shorts are perfect for achieving the ‘fetish’ look for Autumn/Winter 2011. The leather pockets add a sense of modesty to the trend with an added touch of contrasting colour-blocking with the dark red and black colour palette. These shorts are also a better substitution and are a more original choice than wearing black leather shorts, which with this look, are expected.

ASOS Style Vintage-Style Filigree Articulated Armour Ring, £10 – By adding a vintage gold armour ring to this outfit, it makes the outfit less ‘sexed-up’ and more modest-looking. I love gold rings, and I could not let this pretty vintage piece slip my eyes.

ASOS Passion Peep-Toe Court Shoe, £25 – With such a strong colour palette, adding any more colours to the mix would not mesh well. So these nude peep-toe shoes are perfect for not only elongating your legs (an excellent choice for shorties like me!) but it keeps any attention to the upper-half of the outfit which is where the trend is most frequent. This look goes to show you don’t need to wear hardly any clothes to feel ‘sexy’!

Outfit 2
Motel Ozlem Colour Block Dress
, £38 – Colour-blocking is still a big part of the Autumn/Winter 2011 season with designers such as Gucci, Haider Ackermann and Louis Vuitton having their own take on the trend. This colour block dress achieves this trend perfectly without going over-the-top – think a brighter version of this Prada dress at Milan Fashion week, without the clashing print.

ASOS Leather Cropped Blazer, £100 – A cropped leather blazer ‘toughens’ up this party look and clashes with this dress perfectly. At £100, it is definitely an investment piece which can be used for a whole load of different looks from toughening up pretty floral dresses, to achieving this season’s ‘fetish’ look. It is safe to say that this is most definitely money well spent.

Illamasqua Lipstick in Climax, £15.50 – Forget Mary Katranzou pastel pink lips and statement DSquared2 red lips, it’s all about 90s grunge/ 1970s-inspired lip shades! Not convinced? This beauty trend was at the forefront of Autumn/Winter 2011 fashion shows with Marc Jacobs and YSL leading the shade down the catwalk of Milan, for example. This lipstick will complement the leather blazer perfectly.

ASOS Weave Metal Tip Envelope Clutch, £30 – Woven accessories are a huge Spring/Summer 2011 trend at the moment with high-street stores such as Topshop, incorporating this material into their bags and hats. So I had to include this current trend into outfit two! This woven envelope clutch clashes with the leather blazer and colour block dress with ease, making the outfit more unique and original than if I had accessorized the dress differently.

ASOS Swatch Lace-up Block Heel  Shoe, £45 – This lace-up block heel shoe makes me think of Alexa Chung, a style icon who totally rocks the indie/vintage look! If you want to make like Alexa, then this shoe is definitely for you. Not only can it complete and complement this outfit effortlessly, these shoes can be dressed up with this dress, but can be dressed down with skinny jeans for the casual day look.

Outfit 3
ASOS Crop Trouser in Metallic Finish, £40 – Fashion forecasters have predicted the future – literally! The ‘futuristic’ look is another big trend which has hit the Autumn/Winter 2011 catwalks with a metallic palette of clothing from Calvin Klein to strong silhouette pieces as seen on Viktor & Rolf and Balmain models. So these silver metallic crop trousers had to be included in the third and final outfit in this week’s wishlist! The key to this look is simplistic pieces and strong colours which will balance each other rather than having loads of clashing prints.

ASOS Blue Cropped Jumper, £30 – A blue cropped jumper will look great with the silver trousers and shows that you don’t have to dress up too much with this futuristic trend, and that you can be casual too!

ASOS Statement Metal and Multi-Coloured Feather Necklace, £25 – A metal and multi-coloured necklace will add more subtle colour to this third outfit, again, without going ‘over-the-top’. Feathers are still on trend for the Spring/Summer 2011 season, so it would be rude not to include them into this look.  This statement necklace is the only necessary accessory you need to complete this outfit, adding any more accessories would just kill the look.

Barry M Lip Paint in Dolly Pink, £4.50 – This pretty pastel pink shade will contrast the blue jumper flawlessly, leaving your lips to in-fact, do the talking. With make-up such as this making an impact on this outfit, who needs loads of accessories?

ASOS Defend Canvas & Suede High Top Trainers, £30 – Whoever thought high top trainers were too ‘casual’ were wrong. These trainers are the finishing touch to this third look, which not only allows you to achieve the comfortable casual look, but you will look fashionable and on-trend at the same time.

That is another wishlist done for this week. Next week I will be scouring the Miss Selfridge website to create three on-trend looks. I bet your shaking with excitement
