fifty

Going on holiday soon? Well, whilst you have your Fifty Shades of Grey packed in your handbag, let’s not forget summer’s must-have essential – a pair of shades to protect those peeps of yours! And who needs one pair, when The Live Scene has fifty of them at your disposal?

Even though we only have one month of summer left (boo!), we still need a pair of sunglasses to see us through the remainder of August (get what I did there?) Here, I have found a range of shades – from designer to high street, from £1 to £200 – there is a pair to suit everyone’s needs!

My favourites have to be the two pairs of Karen Walker shades, as well as the classic Chanel-inspired half tint sunglasses, as seen on the likes of style icons Mary-Kate Olsen and Nicole Richie. You can get these designer dupes from eBay for only $9.99!

Sunglasses are not only a summer fashion essential, but they also protect your eyes from the harmful UV rays from the sun. These blue Arnette Agent sunglasses are perfect if you want to have a cool down by the pool, whilst at the same time protecting your peepers! Whilst some shades may look fun – who can forget Paris Hilton’s and Kanye West’s trademark ‘raver’ sunglasses – you have got to remember that unless you want crow’s feet or eye damage – and trust me, who wants that? You’ve got to care for those beautiful eyes of yours! And with these fifty shades at your disposal, you can look good and feel fine at the same time!

This week’s Wednesday Wishlist is a Miss Selfridge ‘must-have’ special!

From L-R: 1. Silver Lame Dipback Tee, 2. Black Floral Denim Hotpants, 3. Buddha Ring, 4.Petites Ombre Shirt, 5. Rhinestone Chain Loop & 6. Stud Front Dipback Tee.

1. Silver Lame Dipback Tee, £25 – Metallics were a key Autumn/Winter 2011 trend, but they are still clinging on for ‘trend-glory’ this season with Herve Leger, Givenchy and Sportsmax showcasing these futuristic colours in their S/S 2012 collections. I would pair this top with my Republic black leggings and my silver studded shoes.

2. Black Floral Denim Hotpants, £28 – Florals are always a trend which always crops up at this time of year, with designers such as Matthew Williamson, Mary Katrantzou and dynamic duo Proenza Schouler turning heads with their flower power pieces at their respective fashion weeks.  These shorts would look perfect with a simple white Topshop tee and Office’s pink underground creepers. For the current ‘clash’ look, which is popular with celebrities such as Diane Kruger and Olivia Palermo, team your florals with stripes or leopard print. For this trend, anything goes!

3. Buddha Ring, £6.50 – I was drawn to this Buddha ring because believe it or not, this religion is part of my heritage (I’m half Thai). I used to own quite a few religious Thai trinkets and necklaces, but over the years I have somehow lost them! This Buddha ring reminds me of ‘the other part of my life’, and it’s also gold, which is my favourite jewellery colour – so I HAD to include it in my Wednesday Wishlist! There were only a few left in stock the last time I checked so if you want to snap this up, then you have gotta be quick!

4. Petites Ombre Shirt, £32 – Ombre is BACK, and it is another trend which is set to rock in the Spring/Summer 2012 fashion stakes, with top fashion bloggers ‘ombre-ing’ their hair such as Lily Melrose and Olivia Purvis, to Charlotte Ronson and Louis Vuitton, who have sent dip-dyed pieces down the runway.  This would look great with bloggers favourite American Apparel disco pants and black high top flatforms.

5. Rhinestone Chain Loop, £25 – Collar necklaces were big on the catwalks of Sass & Bide and Oscar De Le Renta. Despite this necklace being HUGE and probably weighing a tonne, it’s still amazing in my eyes!  It would look great under the collar of a crisp white shirt.

6. Stud Front Dipback Tee, £35 – I am in love with studded clothing and accessories at the moment! Let’s just say it’s my ‘inner-Balmain’ which is luring me to this trend. This tee can be dressed up for the day time – with some Boohoo black wet look leggings and Chelsea boots, or it can be dressed up to the nines with some luscious leather shorts from Missguided and River Island black and white heels, for a night out with the girls!

What are your thoughts on Miss Selfridge? Are there any items which take your fancy?

This Wednesday’s Wishlist is all about my work wants!

ww1

From L-R: 1. Soul Cal Deluxe Trilby Hat, 2. Miso Spike & Bead Necklace, 3. Miso Heart Top, 4. Miso Horn Ring, 5. Miso Scallop Hem Highwaisted Shorts & 6. Miso Leopard Print Dip Hem Maxi Dress.

1. Soul Cal Deluxe Trilby Hat, £12 – As most of you know, I work at Republic, and at the moment I am in LOVE with what they have to offer for this Spring and Summer!  I have always wanted a trilby, but due to my genetics (I have such a small head); I have never found a hat which fits me properly. This trilby would be perfect for the upcoming festival season –  think Sienna Miller and Jameela Jamil. Now all I need is my festival ticket and I’m ready to go!

2. Miso Spike & Bead Necklace, £12 – I absolutely adore this collar necklace! It’s quite tribal-esque and as you all know tribal prints are in – just take inspiration from Burberry Prorsum, Emilio Pucci and Gucci, who rocked their prospective fashion weeks. This necklace would look great with the leopard print dip hem maxi dress, Miss Selfridge leather jacket and Deena and Ozzy platforms.

3. Miso Heart Top, £22 – I’m not really a pink fan, but as soon as I saw this pastel pink laser cut crop top I HAD to include it in my Wednesday Wishlist! This top hits two trends with one stone, with pretty pastels being ‘all the rage’ this season with Alexander McQueen, Meadham Kirchhoff and Chanel including these shades in their collections, and laser cut pieces storming the catwalks of Valentino and Louis Vuitton. This top will look great tucked into a Republic black dip hem maxi skirt, with a River Island light minty green blazer and ASOS white creepers.  Invest in yours now!

4. Miso Horn Ring, £8 – Many regular readers will know that I LOVE my rings! So it comes to no surprise that as soon as I saw this one, my mind instantly screamed: ‘Want, want, want!’ The horn is quite big, which is different to all the dainty rings you currently see in the high street. At £8 it is expensive for what it’s worth, but if you’re looking for something a bit different, then this is for you! Thank god for my staff discount!

5. Miso Scallop Hem Highwaisted Shorts, £28 – I have been looking for a decent pair of high waisted denim shorts for ages now, and these scallop hem shorts seem to ‘fit the bill’. Scallop hems were massive last season, and it seems that they are still on trend for this Spring/Summer too, with New York native Jill Stuart incorporating this into her designs.  I just need to add my Miso pastel pink top and my studded slippers, and I’m ready for work!

6. Miso Leopard Print Dip Hem Maxi Dress, £28 – Finally, I am currently coveting this gorgeous leopard print dip hem maxi!  I am in love with dip hem dresses and skirts at the moment, and this would make a perfect addition to my wardrobe! Animal print is another Spring/Summer trend which I love – take inspiration for outfits from Michael Kors and House of Holland, who both show that you don’t have to limit yourself when wearing this print. I would clash this dress with a floral blazer and toughen it up with these nude lace Boohoo boots.

Those are my work wants! What pieces are currently on your work’s wishlist?

This Wednesday’s Wishlist is a shoe special!

wwshoesFrom L-R: 1. KLARKA USA Platform Shoe Boots, 2. Crafted Studded Slippers, 3. Navy Polka Dot Boots, 4. Black and White Flatform Loafers, 5. High Beaded Gladiator Sandals & 6. AMELIA Dalmatian Print Block Heel Chelsea Boots

1. KLARKA USA Platform Shoe Boots, £41.99, Missguided– Want, want, want these shoes! The ‘USA’ trend is HUGE at the moment with high street stores such as Republic, River Island and Topshop waving the American flag! So it comes to no surprise that when my eyes caught these boots on the Missguided website, I HAD to include them in my Wednesday Wishlist! They remind me of Jeffrey Campbell’s but at a much cheaper price! Let’ hope they don’t sell out before my student loan comes in!

2. Crafted Studded Slippers, £25, Republic– I have been looking for some studded shoes for AGES, and when I heard that these babies will be coming into work, I literally jumped for joy! They are perfect for ‘jazzing’ up an outfit, and are different to other shoes on the high street at the moment. With my work discount, I can buy them for £12.50, so as soon as I get paid (Monday) I’m going to get them!

3. Navy Polka Dot Boots, £15, Urban Outfitters– I have lusted after these boots for a while now, but it wasn’t until they popped into the sale (they were originally a whopping £38) that I didn’t really consider including them in my wishlist. These boots are perfect if you want a different look; you can clash them with this River Island print shirt, or pair it with this Missguided lace shirt and scallop denim shorts.

4. Black and White Flatform Loafers, £30, River Island– Flatforms are big at the moment, with bloggers such as LLYMLRS and stylish celebrities: Cher Lloyd, Jessie J and Rihanna sporting this trend. I wasn’t really sure about the ‘flatform’ at first until I saw how versatile they were – I’ve never been a fan of flats – but these ones are perfect for a small girl like me! They give extra height, all without the pain of a high heel and look super comfy!

5. High Beaded Gladiator Sandals, £30, Topshop– I need some sandals for summer, and what better ones to lust after than this Toppers version! I’ve never been a fan of Gladiators, but these ones appealed to me with their gold studs (anyone noticing a shoe-want pattern here?), and they would be perfect for my holiday to Malta in September!

6. AMELIA Dalmatian Print Block Heel Chelsea Boots, £30, Boohoo– And last but not least are these Dalmatian print Chelsea boots! As you all know, I currently own a pair of Topshop leopard print boots (which are AMAZING by the way!), so you’re probably wondering why I want these babies? Well, despite this trend being so last season (bit of blogger snobbery there, sorry), I am still in love with this print, and wouldn’t mind adding this pair to my small shoe collection! Hopefully I can buy these boots when my bank balance looks more positive!

That’s all for this week’s wishlist! What shoes are you guys lusting after?

Here is a little feature on the Town Hall catwalk show I attended, as part of fashion event; Style Birmingham last week. Click on the links if you want to read Style Birmingham part one and part two!

The Town Hall fashion show was in so many ways very different to the Bullring show. For example in this spectacular show, the models showcased their acting and interpretative dancing skills, which was very surprising for visitors!

They also set the scene for all nine collections very well – I was particularly impressed with the ‘Shades of Autumn’ scene, where the models danced whilst striking some very strong poses at the same time!

I loved the ‘New Native’ scene, particularly because of the folky/tribal prints and the fact that you can incorporate this trend into your look so easily. If you’re a Topshop girl, make sure you bag this beaded collar necklace, chiffon playsuit or these über cool tribal earrings to spice up your wardrobe! Or if you want to be a fierce warrior but you’re on a budget, try New Look’s fringe t-shirt for £14.99 (there is currently 20% discount for students both online and instore!) or this quirky Aztec print hat to achieve the ‘New Native’ look!

The ‘Shades of Autumn’ scene basically summed up the staple colours you need in your wardrobe for Autumn/Winter 2011. Think neutrals such as cream (as seen on the model below) and brown, or if you want your staple piece to ‘pop’, include an orange or green palette into your closet. Accessorise with faux fur Cossacks such as this one from New Look, for a cheap £8.99 to complete your outfit.

I loved, loved, loved this scene! ‘Future Avatars’ was all about metallics, from short sequin dresses, to sparkly jumpers clashed with distressed jeans (as seen in the image below), to even sequin hoodies!  By adding just one metallic piece to your outfit, you will instantly be on trend! Republic, Urban Outfitters and Jaeger all have knitted jumpers which you must have this Autumn/Winter! If you don’t fancy metallic clothing, try some accessories – I especially love the headpiece that the model below is wearing!). Head to H&M for this funky metal chain necklace or try River Island for some glamorous metallic bags. One bag which caught my eye was this silver fringed one for a whopping £150! If you’re like me and live on a budget, try this grey studded purse for only £17.

When I saw that ‘Vintage Glamour’ would grace down the Birmingham catwalk, I didn’t really know what I would make of it. I mean vintage does play an important part in fashion and in today’s world; there are many more ‘vintage’ stores than there were in the last 10 years or so. So how can something which is so easily accessible (just by looking in your mum’s wardrobe) be a trend?

Well, despite my initial questions, I believe that ‘Vintage Glamour’ did justice for the vintage world. The looks were reminiscent of 1920s to 1940s glamour, which I think is what the scene was all about. Take inspiration from intricate dresses worn on celebrities such as Gossip Girl’s Blake Lively and style icon Mary-Kate Olsen. The colour palette for this trend was mainly taupe, white, black, grey and gold – some of the colours I’m sure will be in every girl’s wardrobe!

The final scene was ‘Dark Side’ and the outfits were basically all black. Think the Addams family but with more ‘style’. Despite the one block colour, the models pulled off these looks perfectly without going gothic! Try black zip dresses such as this one from Republic, or a pussy bow blouse from River Island, as well as Boohoo’s PU leather shorts. Anything stylishly black goes and I guess the black coloured-clothing world really is your oyster for this trend!

That’s it for Style Birmingham; hopefully I covered everything you wanted to know! Look out for future fashion event posts!
