ARE high brow products worth the hype? The Live Scene road tests Clinique’s moisture surge to find out.
What is it? Clinique is a well known high-end beauty brand which offers skin care products and make up that are all allergy tested and 100% fragrance free. Another one of their selling points is that their products have been designed to address individual skin types and needs.
Its official website states that this product: “Protects skin from dehydration, plumping skin’s ability to hold in soothing, nourishing moisture.”
Why did you buy it?
It was free with a magazine. It is available from the Clinique website for £29.00 for 100ml. I reviewed a 30ml sample.
How do you use it? The packaging states: “Use whenever, or wherever needed, under or over make up or as a 5 minute moisture mask.“ I used it daily as a moisturiser before I put on my BB cream, and before I went to bed. I tested this for one week in order to give a honest opinion.
I have to say that this is the first Clinique product I have ever used and it certainly won’t be my last! This moisturiser has made significant improvements to my skin (no word of a lie). It’s a lot softer and smoother, and I only have to use a pea sized amount to cover my whole face! The only downside that people could say is that it is very liquidy, which is probably why you only need to apply so little of it. For me personally, I quite like ‘thicker’ moisturisers like Simple’s Hydrating Moisturiser, but Clinique have won me over with this good value for money product. I would definitely pay £29.00 for the full version.
DO cheap hand creams do the job? The Live Scene finds out…
What is it? Inecto is a company which specialises in using pure coconut oil to help revitalise dry skin and hair.
On the packaging Inecto states that this hand and nail cream: “contains 100% pure coconut oil infused with a warm velvety vanilla fragrance to help soften and nourish dry hands.”
Why did you buy it?
I was shopping one day and needed hand cream so I bought it from a Bodycare store. Even though this is a limited edition product it is available from Pak Cosmetics.
How do you use it? Massage onto hands and nails as often as required. I tested it for a week to see the effects and in order to give it a ‘proper’ review.
Even though this hand cream smells divine, I had to keep reapplying the cream as my skin kept drying up. I do sometimes suffer from dry skin on my hands so I moisturise them everyday to keep them smooth. This product unfortunately didn’t really work for me because as soon as I applied the cream, within a short amount of time my skin was dry – which is not something I have experienced before using hand creams. To say it’s 99p, I didn’t really expect much quality, but I would have thought it would keep my hands nourished for longer than fifteen minutes!
My rating (out of five): Can anyone recommend me any good hand creams?
YOU may think that this make up is reserved for Barbie but according to Donna Karan and co, there’s no such thing as too much pink.
Models were covered in the colour of the season (sorry Pantone) at shows such as Giles and Dries Van Noten, and now you can re-create this look with the help of The Live Scene.
Stars such as Halle Berry swear by applying sunscreen (whatever the weather) to help keep their skin smooth and to prevent aging. So by applying Clinique’s CC cream with SPF 30 not only are you protecting your skin from the sun’s harsh rays, but it also has long lasting oil-free hydration. Goodbye tired looking skin, hello flawless face!
Now it’s time to dish out the pink make up! Start by sweeping Stargazer’s pressed powder eyeshadow over your lids. Keep building up the colour until you are satisfied –the brighter the better! Then take a small shadow brush and carefully line the bottom of your eyes.
LOOKING for that perfect face wash? Then look no further!
What is it? Elemis is a luxury spa and skincare brand which prides itself in using its ‘successful combination of natural active ingredients with cutting-edge technology’ to bring anti-aging products to the market.
Its official website states that this product: “ contains cherry powder and jojoba beads to gently polish and help refine skin texture. Enriched with mandarin and aniseed to soften and condition, leaving skin clean, brighter and more radiant.”
Why did you buy it?
It was free in a goody bag. It is available from the Time to Spa website for £12.00 for 100ml. You can buy it here. I am reviewing a 30ml sample.
How do you use it? Massage onto wet skin in circular motions on your face, then rinse it off with warm water. I tested it for a week to see the effects and in order to give it a ‘proper’ review.
I am in love with this face wash! Not only has it improved my skin, it also makes it glow! I prefer face wash that has grains in it (just a preference), and this one seems to do the trick and exfoliate without leaving my skin dry. To say it is 30ml it lasted longer than the trial week, which is always a bonus in my case! The only thing which doesn’t make it a 5/5 is the smell – I hate aniseed! But if you don’t mind aniseed then I really do recommend it!
WHICH hair care product smells great and looks after your hair? Yuko’s leave-in conditioner of course!
What is it?
Yuko is a company which was established in 1993, and is best known for its straightening process that straightens hair without damage.
Its official website states that this product is a: “special heat-activated leave-in conditioner that utilizes a unique blend of natural plant oils for detangling and deeply revitalizing the hair while heat styling further enhances the effects of the oils.”
Why did you buy it?
It was free in a goody bag. It is available from the Yuko website for $24.00. You can buy it here.
How do you use it? After I have washed my hair, I towel dry it and spray my hair with the conditioner. I then comb my hair through. I tested it for a week to see the effects and in order to give it a ‘proper’ review.
I have to say that because I hardly straighten my hair, I cannot really give this product a true rating in relation to Yuko’s famous ‘straightening process’. However, this conditioner has made my hair soft and shiny, and even though I have used it everyday for the past month, there is still so much of it left in the bottle. In fact, I am only a quarter way through! The conditioner itself also smells so nice – it took me a while to realise but it reminds me of Refreshers – which if you’re a sweet tooth like me, it is always a bonus! I would definitely recommend this product, as even though I don’t straighten my hair, it does work wonders!
