TRAVEL – trek america’s grand trek: jackson hole

travel - trekamerica grand trek day 13 jackson holeYesterday was such a busy day, so it was nice that today was our free day – something we had been looking forward to for a while!

Me, Bobbi, Polly, Holly and Kirsty decided to head into Jackson Hole town and explore the square, whilst the boys and Annalie went mountain biking and Steph, Emma and Jules did a hike in Grand Teton with Steve.

linebreak My mission for the morning was to hit the café for wifi (what can I say, three to four days with no internet is a struggle!) and to get some board shorts for whitewater rafting! We stopped by the Cowboy Café for breakfast and to get our internet fix, before having a shop around. Once I had found my board shorts, it was time to quickly head back to camp to get ready for whitewater rafting.

linebreakMe, Marc, Rob, Polly, Holly, Dave, Matty and Annalie all headed to Snake River (on an American school bus no doubt) to tackle their class three rapids. When we arrived we were greeted by rain (no surprise there), got our life jackets on and headed out onto the river. It was such a nice cool down (especially in the 35c heat). Aside from whitewater rafting, we got to swim in the water, the boys and Annalie ‘rode the bull’ and I got to test my balancing skills (which were pretty good fyi) standing on the edge of the boat whilst getting spun around. To say it was quite pricey ($79), it was such an amazing experience and it definitely made me want to do it again in Tennessee!

linebreakOnce our session had finished, we headed back to camp, where I did laundry (woop), had tea and then played drinking games a la Jenga style. Steve bought us Jenga, and told us to write dares on the blocks such as ‘take a shot’, ‘shave part of your leg’ (unfortunately Dave drew the short straw on that one), ‘have a dance off’, ‘get a permanent marker tattoo’ and everybody’s favourite dare; ‘have a shot of Old Turkey whisky’ (and that was stuff was lethal!)

It was such a good night! Quite a few of us stayed up drinking until 2.30 in the morning, whilst a couple of others had some ‘tent time’ that night (ah hmm). It felt so good to relax and chill – especially knowing that we’d have a nice lie in tomorrow – a 9.30am wake-up call counts as a lie in … right?
