FASHION & CAREER – london school of styling

career and fashion - london school of stylingThis summer I completed a styling course with the London School of Styling.

Why styling? Well, I have always been interested in this part of the industry, and after delving into the world of PR (which was far too many swear words for my liking) and dressing models for runway shows (I can only see a model’s wobbly bits – yes wobbly bits so many times) that I fancied more of a challenge.

So low and behold, I enrolled on the London School of Styling’s course which I found on twitter through @UKFashionIntern – if you don’t follow them already, FOLLOW. They are really good at advertising internships, paid placements and helpful courses such as these. (Don’t worry they didn’t pay me to plug, but if you’re reading UKFI – hi!)

This part-time course held classes on a Saturday every few weeks which was perfect for those with 9-5 jobs! Beginning with a theory class, four photoshoots followed: womenswear, personal styling, menswear and advertising, and the course finished with a tips and tricks class.

Keep an eye out over the next few weeks for mini lookbooks from my shoots – I’d love to know what you think, and a final review of the course!

Are you interested in styling? Did you take this course or thinking of taking one?

  1. Hi Sarah,
I found this really interesting. I’ve been trying to research this course as they’ve followed me on Instagram and that’s how I came a cross it. Really interested in it and I’d love to know more. Was it worth it? Would you recommend it? What has it lead to?
    Kind regards,

    Melissa

    • Hi Melissa, sorry for the late reply!

I would say it is worth it as for me styling was something I felt I was missing from my CV and I get to help out with editorial shoots in my job role now because of this experience. It is quite pricey however (£500), and sometimes I felt it was a little unorganised (in terms of timings and locations for shoots) and you do have to buy your own clothing (apart from the advertising shoot), but in hindsight I did enjoy it and I now have a portfolio. I hope this helps, and if you have any other questions feel free to ask! :)

      xx
